报告人简介:

Dr. Gurpal S. Toor is a Professor of Soil and Water Quality in the Department of Environmental Science and Technology at the University of Maryland. Previously, he served as Associate Chair and Extension Director for ~2 years. Dr. Toor is a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America. His research program focuses on nutrients and carbon in agricultural watersheds to protect surface water and groundwater. The specific objectives of his research program are (1) to develop, evaluate, and refine innovative tools to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus pollution of water bodies and (2) to investigate mechanisms and processes controlling the release and transport of nitrogen and phosphorus from agricultural landscapes to drainage ditches, streams, and rivers in the Chesapeake Bay watershed and other water bodies. He has published >110 refereed articles, >39 extension publications and featured magazine articles, and has given >282 professional talks, conferences, and symposia. He has served as. Major advisor to 21 graduate students and >20 graduate student committees. The secretary of Agriculture has appointed Dr. Toor to the Nutrient Management Committee and Phosphorus Management Tool Committee. He was elected as a member of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) Agriculture Workgroup Committee for the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. He is the past chair of an international professional organization (SERA-17) of researchers working to minimize nutrient losses from agriculture. Dr. Toor serves on the Board of the American Society of Agronomy and is a member of the Science-Policy Committee and Book and Multimedia Committee of Crop, Agronomy, and Soil Science Societies of America. He serves on several journal editorial boards, including Current Pollution Reports, PLoS ONE, and Nature Scientific Reports. Dr. Toor’s research has been funded in recent years by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, the U.S. EPA, several state and regional agencies, and other industry partners.
